Sun Peaks Resort. It’s good enough for Nancy Greene.

She was Canada's top ski racer through the 1960's, winning gold and silver medals at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and overall World Cup titles in 1967 and 68. Her total of 13 World Cup victories is still a Canadian record. She won 17 Canadian Championship titles in all disciplines. Sun Peaks Resort is located outside of Kamloops BC, about a 4 hour drive from Vancouver. To vacation there is about as much fun as is possible during winter. Blessed with 2,000 hours of sunshine and 17 feet of snow, the resort has a great many features. The 12 lifts, including 3 high speed quad chairlifts, 2 quad chairlifts, 1 triple chairlift, and 6 surface lifts will move over 12,000 skiers per hour. For cross-country enthusiasts Sun Peaks resort has 28 km of groomed trails and 12 km of back-country trails as well as dedicated snowshoe trails. Speaking of awards, the pedestrian based village has won it’s share for quality of amenities. Comfortable lodges, restaurants and bars, ski & snowboard school, ski & snowboard rentals, children's terrain garden, child-minding, Sun Kids Snow School. Back Country Cat Skiing / Snowboarding This is a great introduction to backcountry skiing/boarding. It’s different than Heli Skiing chiefly due to the difference in expense. Helicopter flights are very expensive. Sun Peaks resort guides will take you to vast snow fields and untouched powder on the back side of Tod Mountain. Participants can expect to get 7 to 12 runs per tour depending on the skill level and expertise of the group. This is a full day adventure and includes a certified guide, lunch, and safety gear. There is o minimum age required, but guests under the age of 19 wishing to participate must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be at least a strong intermediate skier or boarder. $250. Per person plus a $15. Back country pass if a lift ticket or season pass is not on hand. Cat Trax Groomer Ride This feature is very unique. We have all watched the snow cats grooming the trails on the mountains after hours. How would you like to go along for the drive in one? For 14 years of age and older. The 45 to 60 minute ride costs $40. Per person International Fondue and Torchlight Descent Take part in one of Sun Peaks Resort’s signature events. Your evening begins with a trip up the chair to the Sunburst Restaurant where you will enjoy a delightful fondue accompanied by live music. The menu includes a variety of meats, seafood, fresh baked breads, and vegetables to accompany the oil and cheese fondues. The meal is followed by a decadent chocolate fondue dessert with a selection of fresh fruits to round out the feast. After the meal you will then cruise down the torch lit slopes of the 5 Mile ski run. The 5 mile is a nice, gentle run where you can swish along at your own rate of speed. All participants must be at least 14 years of age, and comfortable skiing in the dark. This great activity takes place every Thursday night during the ski season beginning at 5:00pm till roughly 7:30pm. Advance reservations are required for this activity, due to limited seating.
